Jennifer Jenkins Appointed Visiting Research Chair at the Colegio de San Luis, Mexico

The Academic Board of the Colegio de San Luis in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, has granted Jennifer Jenkins their highest academic chair in their History Program for the year of 2019.

The Primo Feliciano Velázquez Institutional Chair (Cátedra Institucional Primo Feliciano Velázquez ) is the highest award Colegio de San Luis (COLSAN) grants to scholars in recognition of their academic merits and trajectory.

It includes a stipend to travel and stay in San Luis Potosi, and is intended for COLSAN to support a project of research to be generated in one year in order to develop their programs connected with History. Dr. Jenkins will develop a work program involving students and faculty focused upon the social, political, and economic history of the cinema experience in San Luis Potosí from 1898-1970, utilizing archival records held at ColSan, state and municipal records, and analysis of the purpose-built cinemas in San Luis Potosí’s historic centro

The Colegio de San Luis (https://www.colsan.edu.mx/) is a Federal Public Research Center offering Master’s and doctoral degrees in the Social Sciences and Humanities. Founded in 1997, it is overseen by CONACYT, the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología.

This appointment is the first activity resulting from the recently signed International Memorandum of Understanding between ColSan and UA in November 2018 through the Office of SBS Mexico Initiatives.
